The funding available to the SUNRISE Project totals £3.6 million. The majority of these funds (approx. £2.1 million) has been granted by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) under their Priority 6 funding stream which aims to Protect and Preserve the natural Environment.

The balance of the funding has been generously provided by project partners including Stoke City Council, the Environment Agency and Newcastle Borough Council to enable to project to go ahead.

The award of this level of funding for a project focussing on the natural environment in an urban setting is rare and a credit to the staff from all the project partners who have worked behind the scenes for several years to prepare and deliver this project.
